Located in Kailua Center, Island Snow is a must-visit when you’re looking for an icy treat on Oahu’s windward (east) coast. The shave ice counter is actually located inside of a boutique apparel store named Island Snow. The unusual co-location offers both authentic Hawaiian shave ice and merch from a premium locally made clothing line. Island Snow whips up spectacular shave ice for locals, visitors, and even the likes of former presidents (hint: Obama loves this spot!)
Natural Flavor Offerings!
If you know your way around a Hawaiian shave ice order, you’re probably used to the not-so-natural syrups most locations offer. Luckily, Island Snow now has a Welch Brothers “All Natural” syrups on their menu! These naturally delicious options will run you a small additional fee of $1.25, but if it makes you feel better about eating this heavenly treat, then it’s totally worth it!
They offer two sizes: Keiki and Large. There’s only a 50 cent difference between the two, but Keiki is the perfect amount unless you’re sharing. The shave ice comes in a cup rather than a bowl (like at Matsumoto’s) and a mountain of ice. They offer traditional toppings and extras like Snowcap (condensed milk), mochi, and a fantastic mac nut ice cream!
My go-to flavors are anything tropical including lilikoi, guava, mango, and occasionally li hing mui. What are your faves?!
