The famous pink Royal Hawaiian Hotel is also home to a fabulous Mai Tai bar located steps away from the sand of Waikiki Beach. As the name suggests, you can expect fantastic mai tai cocktails in addition to tasty pupus (appetizers) and entrees. It is the ideal setting to enjoy the Waikiki scene, especially at sunset.
About the location:
Mai Tai Bar is located in the heart of Waikiki inside the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The bar is situated as close to Waikiki Beach as you can get. Enjoy oceanfront views of Honolulu’s beautiful volcanic crater, Diamond Head while you sip tropical cocktails and enjoy some of the freshest food in Honolulu.
Waikiki is famous for its sunny beach days and vibrant city nights, so be sure to check out the neighboring shops, bars and other establishments along Kalakaua Avenue.
Food & Drinks
Mai Tai Bar currently serves lunch and dinner daily. It’s a great spot to enjoy a casual lunch in between an ocean dip, shopping, or surf session.
I love coming here for pre-dinner drinks and apps because nothing beats fresh poke and people watching paired with an incredible Mai Tai 😉
The Signature Mai Tai is crafted using fresh orange and pineapple juice, orange curacao, orgeat, and local rums from Old Lahaina distillery on Maui. Fun fact: the Royal Hawaiian was the first hotel to serve mai tais after Victor J. Bergeron — better known as “Trader Vic” — first introduced the tropical cocktail to Hawaii in the early 1950s!

Dinner and a Show
Mai Tai Bar has daily live music played by local musicians from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
It is also a fun spot to grab a drink before watching the famous Friday night fireworks* from the sand on Waikiki beach! Each Friday evening (between 7:45 PM – 8:00 PM), the Hilton Hawaiian Village puts on a free firework show just down the street from the Royal Hawaiian hotel.
*Unfortunately, the firework show has been suspended during the covid-19 pandemic, but we will be sure to include an update when the sizzling show returns! You can also check the Hilton Hawaiian Village’s website for updates.
